The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships program is a fully funded scholarship valued at $50,000 annually for up to three years. It not only provides full financial support towards the Student’s tuition fees, but the scholarship is enough to cover other expenses such as; books, living costs, and other forms of support such as health insurance and other expenses.

Scholarships are available in Ph.D. programs or combined MA/Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. fields of study, including engineering, science, architecture, computing, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, veterinary medicine, and Law. The degree

Eligibility Criteria for The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships program:

The eligibility Criteria for The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships Program are as follows;

  • The Student must have a first-class average in the last two years of their studies.
  • The Student must be a Canadian citizen, Either a Permanent resident or an international student residing in Canada.
  • The Student must pursue the  Doctoral Degree as a full-time Canadian student
  • The Student must not be receiving any scholarship from any of the three agencies  “CIHR,” “NSERC,” or “SSHRC” for any other Ph.D. program.
  • A Canadian university must select the Student.

Note: If Students are pursuing joint professional degrees programs such as MD/Ph.D., DVM/Ph.D., or JD/Ph.D., they will be eligible as long as they are pursuing a Ph.D. program with a research component. However, only the Ph.D. portion of a combined degree will be funded under the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship.

Selection Process of The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships program:

The selection committee comprises members from the Canadian academic community appointed by the social sciences and engineering, natural sciences and humanities, and health science.

Members of the selection committee are appointed from among outstanding applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence in their studies and potential for research leadership in a wide range of scientific areas. Applicants must also have extensive experience outside the classroom setting and a commitment to social justice and international development.

Students will be selected based on their academic excellence, research potential, and demonstrated ability to lead others effectively. Other significant factors include:

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships competition nominations are due by 1 November 2022. Canadian universities must submit their nominations to the national competition by this deadline. The deadline for universities to submit their selected students nationwide is 1 November 2022, and the result will be announced to applicants in April 2023.
